Voice onset time - Voice Onset Time (VOT) of sentence initial stops and f0 of the first two vowels of the sentence produced by 117 Seoul Korean speakers were measured to determine how VOT and f0 realization of stop categories vary by speakers' age (range: 19-71) and gender. This is the first large-scale study of its kind based on data gathered from Seoul residents.

Voice onset time (VOT) was measured in the production of /t/ in the initial position of 60 English words spoken by native English (NE) speakers and native Spanish (NS) speakers who began learning English before or after the age of 21 years. The subjects rated the words for familiarity, age of acquisition, imageability, and relatedness to word(s ...A key challenge in examining the interrelationship between these differences at various stages of production is the need for manual annotation of fine-grained properties of speech. We introduce a new method for automatically analysing voice onset time (VOT), a key phonetic feature indexing differences in sound systems cross-linguistically.Voice onset time (VOT) is a temporal acoustic parameter, which reflects the timing of speech motor control. The objective of the work was to obtain normative VOT data in Swedish children. Thus, 150 children aged 8-11 years old and 36 adults were audio-recorded when producing the plosives in minimal …Sep 1, 2020 · Voice Onset Time (VOT) has been used as an acoustic measure for a better understanding of the impact of different motor speech disorders in speech production. A voiced bidental fricative, [ɦ̪͆], a fricative made through clenched teeth with no involvement of the tongue or the lips and the vocal cords vibrate, due to the sound being voiced. Bidental aspiration of another consonant, e.g. [tʰ̪͆] or [dʱ̪͆]. People with hypoglossia (abnormally small tongue) may use bidental fricatives for target ...The main cue for this distinction is voice-onset time (VOT). VOT is the temporal disparity between the onset of the opening of the vocal tract and the period movements of the vocal folds. The acoustic cues that arise as a consequence of this timing difference will be, in the case of a negative VOT (the onset of voicing then precedes the opening ...Jun 30, 2021 · Voice onset time (VOT) is known to be a primary acoustic cue that differentiates voiced from voiceless stops in the world’s languages. While much attention has been given to the sound change of Korean stops, little attention has been given to that of English stops. This study examines VOT of stop consonants as produced by English speakers in comparison to Korean speakers to see whether there ... Voice Onset Time (VOT) was calculated by subtracting the stop burst time from that of the voice onset. Five undergraduate research assistants were trained to mark the acoustic events and discussed their markings in a separate meeting to ensure compatibility and to reach consensus on difficult cases. The importance of voice onset time continues to be apparent, even in running speech, although other effects of context remain to be explored. Voiced stop consonants (/b/, /g/, and /d/) in syllable initial position are characterized by short VOTs, whereas unvoiced stop consonants (/p/, /k/, and t/) contain prolonged VOTs. As the VOT is ...The duration between the release of the plosive and the voice onset is called the voice onset time (VOT) or the aspiration interval. Highly aspirated plosives have a long period of aspiration, so that there is a long period of voiceless airflow (a phonetic [h]) before the onset of the vowel. The voice onset time (VOT) of a stop consonant is the interval between its burst onset and voicing onset.
